About the couple
Tagrina is original from Seattle, Washington and moved to Maryland to work at The University of Maryland, College Park. Rakib grew up in Columbia (my hometown!) and is currently doing a residency in neurology with a heavy focus in research.
Getting Ready
Both Tagrina and Rakib got ready at the Reston Hyatt in nearby but separate rooms. Tagrina had her makeup, hair and duppatta set by Masooma Hassnain. Her dress was custom designed by Rakib’s mother. Rakib was alone for the most part while getting ready. His parents joined him for a couple of emotional moments when his father helped him with his turban. One of my favorite details was the engraving inside his wedding band which says “More than you know” and had their wedding date.
The First Look
Freezing wouldn’t describe the weather. It was one of the most frigid weeks in January where the temperature didn’t get out of the teen’s! With that in mind, we opted to stay unfrozen and inside for the portraits. We set up the first look in the lobby area of the Hyatt Reston which has beautiful natural light through its skylights. Their reaction to seeing one another was a reminder as to why I love photography as much as I do. I love capturing the reality of love. That no other person gives joy the way simply seeing your spouse can is beautiful.
The Wedding Ceremony
The ceremony took place in the ballroom which was beautifully decorated by the Imperial Decor team. The center area of the ballroom was draped off to give a beautiful intimate feeling to the ceremony. The Muslim wedding ceremony (Nikkah) was conducted by an Imam from the ADAMS center in Sterling, Virginia. After the ceremony, the couple exchanged garlands.
The Wedding Reception
The ballroom was flipped and the dancefloor was put into place and I was able to get a beautiful empty ballroom shot. DJ Hawk had provided the uplighting and the designed lighting on the dancefloor. Once Rakib and Tagrina made their entrance there were a couple of speeches. There was then a dance performance by a local Indian dance team. The beautiful day ended with dinner and dancing.
